Soybean meal is the most important protein source used to feed farm animals and it is a protein supplement. Soybean meal is the by-product of the extraction of soybean oil. The top Soybean meal producing countries are Argentina, Brazil and the United States.

Indonesia, Vietnam, Netherlands, France and Germany are the leading importers of soybean meal.

In the 2018/2019 period, over 150 million metric tons of soybeans were imported globally. The production of soybean meal in the world is over 160 million metric tons and the global market for Soybean meal was valued at US$ 23 billion.

Most of the soybeans are mechanically harvested. The length of the growing season varies from 50 to 200 days, depending on the variety and weather conditions.

There are over 200 soybean varieties and the varieties are linolenic soybeans, natto beans, non-genetically modified organism soybeans, tofu soybeans and triple-null lipoxygenase soybeans etc.

Soybeans were originated in China and Southeast Asia.
